As part of proper exterior surface preparation, our team often includes stucco repair services to address cracks, damaged areas, and long-term durability before painting.

Is it important for business or building owners to hire experienced building painting contractors in their area? If you own a business or commercial building in the West Kootenay area, particularly in the cities of Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail, the biggest factor to consider is the extreme Canadian weather in all four seasons. So, yes, it is of vital importance to get the professional advice and services of a professional painting company, one such as A&A Painting Ltd.

Commercial Painting and Experienced Painters

Painting or repainting a commercial building is more than just commercial aesthetics or upgrading. It is a long-term investment that can enhance the overall appeal of the building, protect the outer walls from harsh weathering, attract new and repeat customers, and even boost the esprit-de-corps of its employees. While DIY options or cheaper painters may seem tempting to cut down on expenses, hiring a professional painting company offers a large variety of benefits and advantages that far outweigh the costs going cheap.

Hiring Professional Local Building Painters

Professional painters are efficient, precise, experienced, and generally are experts in their field, be it commercial, residential, exterior, or interior painting. They are experienced with the years of knowledge in different paint types, surface preparation techniques, and have the right tools and equipment for the job. Their expertise enables them to tackle various challenges that might arise during the painting process, and this ensures a flawless paint finish that will stand the test of time. They also understand the nuances of different types of surfaces, the challenges of such surfaces, and what paint type to use.

Realistic Cost Considerations

Naturally, the cost of hiring a professional painting company might come with a cost, the long-term benefits far outweigh the total investment. While it’s true that hiring professional building painting contractors may vary, this will, of course, depend on factors such as the size of the building, the scope of work, and the color and type of paint to be used. Professional painting contractors deliver results that last, and this reduces the need for frequent repainting or touch-ups, thus, saving money for the owner in the long run.

Professional Building Painting Services is Always Worth It

Hiring a professional painting company will always be worth it just based on the reasons previously stated above. Professional painters can deliver a smooth and even finish that is more than several levels above any DIY or cheap painter effort.

To make hiring a professional painting company really worth it, firstly, check out if the company is bonded, licensed, insured, WCB, and that all personnel are fully vetted and background checked.

Next, check the company’s website (cheap painters don’t have websites) and visit their portfolio, reviews, and testimonials. Their satisfied customers will always attest to the company’s high-quality paint job finish and will even serve as references for other clients in the local area.

When requesting for a detailed quote, ask about their surface preparation and priming. Ask them to outline the whole scope of the work and materials involved. Ask what colors and paint type is best for the building and why they chose those particulars.

All the more reason to hire a professional painting company in the West Kootenay area with more than 30 years of outstanding painting service. As part of proper exterior surface preparation, our team often includes stucco repair services to address cracks, damaged areas, and long-term durability before painting.

A&A Painting Ltd. has been serving customers for over 30 years in the West Kootenay area, particularly Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, and the Slocan Valley. Our professional and experienced painters are experts at providing quality commercial, residential, industrial, interior, and exterior painting services. We deliver the best high-quality painting service finish blended with the price charged.

You can see the passion and value of A&A Painting in the website’s blog and galleries that feature most of our customers’ finished painting jobs. Some feature “before and after” pictures. You can also view the testimonial page and what our satisfied customers have to say.

A Recent Job By Steve’s Team

Steve’s Paint Team, sometimes called the ‘Dream Team’, recently finished a commercial repainting job at 1010-1046 4th Street, Castlegar. Steve, Joban, Akash, and Inder were tasked with repainting a commercial building that was originally painted orange. The proprietor and A&A Painting were decidedly united in finding a better color since the old color conjured images of old prison block establishments.

For the repainting, the whole building would exude a finish of blends of dark blue. The upper stucco area was painted with BM 805 New York State of Mind in an ultraspec flat. For the flashing and trim a BM 804 Chicago Blues in aura soft gloss was selected. The lower stucco was painted with OC 18 Dove, and the wing was finished off with a covercoat flat.

How did the finish turn out? Take a look at the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures. The photos speak for themselves.

Why Hire A Commercial Painter?

Painting a commercial establishment is stressful work, more so for people who have no experience in professional exterior painting. As stressed, this work is best left to professional painters. These experienced painters have the knowledge, skills, and tools to improve the appearance and visibility of a building. Commercial painting services can be cost-effective because the painting company can offer different package deals that cover everything from the choice of paint to tools needed, and labor.

In this situation, A&A Painting Ltd puts its years of service and experience to work for the customer, using the best tools invested by the company, knowing how to use the best products on the market, and how to choose the right paint and color to get the best aesthetic result.

A&A Painting Ltd. had the recent pleasure of repainting a commercial building for a client in Nelson City in the West Kootenay area. The commercial repainting job was assigned to one of the A&A Painting ‘Dream Team’ consisting of Connie, Tracey, Steve, and Joban.

The repainting job for the Kootenay Lake Dental Clinic located at 556 Josephine Street, Nelson, was nothing short of incredible. The transformation shows the quality of a well-done professional painting job once again by A&A Painting Ltd.

Why does a commercial building need repainting?

  1. The most basic reason for any commercial repainting job is that the current paint job has reached the end of its lifespan and its exterior no longer creates a good first impression.
  2. The current paint job is showing signs of extreme staining, fading, peeling, and sunlight damage.
  3. The current paint color no longer suits the purpose of the building.

Choosing colors for the repainting job

Major color changes for the repainting can make all the difference in making a commercial building look new, clean, modern, and professional.

In the case of the Kootenay Lake Dental Clinic, A&A Painting and the owner agreed on an overall trim color change to Black Horizon 231-30. The Stucco was then painted with Flat Match BM in 2 tones. The primary color selected was BM Cloud Cover OC25 with the corner details using Coventry Grey HC 169. Because the building looks striking with a lot of glass, the colors gave it a stunning finish that made it stand out from its surroundings.

The repainting service included power washing, scraping, and stucco repairs.

Why power washing?

Power washing utilizes water that is propelled under high pressure that contacts surfaces at pressured speeds to knock out all types of dirt and grime from a variety of surfaces, leaving a clean and smooth surface ready for repainting.

Why scraping and repairs?

Despite the water blasting, some surfaces will still need scraping to have hard debris, peeling paint, and paint chips removed. New paint will not adhere well to debris- or dirt-infested surfaces. Sometimes, holes and cracks need to be repaired, caulked, filled, or sanded for a professional aesthetic finish.

In the case of Kootenay Lake Dental Clinic, some repairs were done in the Stucco area.

What your building or facility exudes makes the first impression to your customers of your company. A company must make sure its space reflects the message they want to send. Companies can use paint to make workplaces unique, and paint allows for the ultimate creativity. However, if you don’t know where to start, you can discuss with the building painting contractors who can provide some great ideas for creativity.

Incorporating logos in a clever manner

A company can make a big and bold statement by having the industrial painting contractors paint the company logo in the entryway or the front façade of the building. This brand identity means that it’s the first thing people see when they look at the entrance. You can also create an alternate monochromatic logo design and have it painted on the sides of the building, facility, or warehouse.

Bold colours and graphics

A painting company can suggest using colours, hues, and shades in fun ways to express the company culture. You can create a colour scheme that revolves around the company’s branding colours and use this scheme on the building or facility’s exterior walls. You can also use other colours that may reflect your company’s personality such as green for environment-friendly businesses or yellow for energy production.

Think beyond the walls

A company should think beyond their exterior building walls. There are imaginative ideas for ceilings and doors that can make a big impact on the company. For instance, if your industrial ceilings are low or boring, you can have commercial painting contractors paint them with airy colours or fun and bright designs. This draws the eye up and makes the space feel more spacious. You can have the doors painted in contrasting colours to the walls for better visual interest and appeal.

Make a statement

An exterior wall is like a giant canvas on the side of a building, facility, or warehouse. It’s waiting to tell or share a company story, a special event, or just show a stunning image. It can be a sizeable image of the company’s first storefront, its first innovative construction, the first product manufactured, or pay homage to the city where the company was founded with a skyline mural.

Painting camouflage

Local painting contractors can use paint to camouflage or disguise boring exterior drywalls. They can use paint to create a whole different look and feel to simulate other materials. Wood planked walls can be created by painting faux wood planks. The same can be done with faux brick walls.

Ideas and designs abound when you hire A&A Painting Ltd.

If you want your business or industrial building to stand out and make a statement, hire the best building painting contractors in the West Kootenay region. A&A Painting is a professional painting contractor with an outstanding painting and service crew. We have the painting experience built up with over 30 years in the business. Call us today.

As the fall season is here, with winter just around the corner, some business owners are wondering if the commercial painting projects they failed to implement in the summer can still be done in the winter. Naturally, a business owner may seek the advice of a commercial painting service if building exteriors can be painted.

Painting in the fall and winter

Some people may ask why the building wasn’t painted during the summer. Perhaps the summer was so unbearably hot and the humidity was very high, or there was even a heatwave. Or maybe the building proprietor is planning to sell the building in the spring market even before spring arrives. This is actually smart since the new coat of paint adds appeal, rather than having it painted in the busy spring painting season. Some building owners even like to have their building exterior painted in the fall to seal off exterior surfaces that are prone to damage from snow and road salt.

house with bushes winter

How surfaces react to painting in cold weather

Surfaces to be painted also called substrates, react differently when painted in cold weather. A truly professional painting contractor will discuss this with the building owner and the size of the whole painting project. After all, if you do start in the fall, you don’t want the project to carry on for several months and run into winter and possible below-zero temperatures.

  • Masonry

Probably the most common exterior material in most buildings, masonry can be painted in cold weather. However, some additional work needs to be done if other substrates (such as metal or wood) come in contact with the masonry or if the substrate comes into contact with the ground. This is because the ground and masonry might become too wet and retain much moisture.

  • Metal

Metal can be painted in cold weather. However, professional painting services will closely monitor how cold it can become during the day and night. This is to determine how the paint will cure in certain temperatures. Testing paint overnight and doing adhesion tests the next day is normally done.

  • EIFS and stucco

EIFS (exterior insulation finishing systems) and stucco turn out well even when painted in cold weather. Many professional painting companies have most of their stucco and EIFS exterior painting projects even in the autumn.

  • Wood

Wood does not get as cold as masonry and metal do in winter. Exterior wood is preferably painted in cooler weather. It is also less expensive because the need for primers for bare wood is eliminated. Also, wood allows for 4-hour recoating, making it desirable for painting in cold weather. Professional painters use moisture metres especially in the morning to avoid morning dew, most especially around windows, doors, frames, and other vertical wood surfaces. Decks and fences are also best painted in cold weather since hot weather can cause flash drying.

Before we get down to colour choices and colour psychology for retail stores, let’s get one thing clear. If you’re a retail owner who believes that brick-and-mortar retail stores are becoming obsolete, think again. In fact, think hard again. You can improve the look of your retail store by talking with commercial painting services.

Even if consumers order most things through the internet because it’s a convenient trend, and makes people lazier to leave the house, retail stores will remain a destination in themselves. There are certain in-store experiences in terms of personal assistance that websites cannot give. There is merchandise that needs to be seen, touched, even smelled, and interacted with, before a purchase is made.

Need more convincing? In the U.S. alone, 73% of purchases and decisions to purchase are still made in retail stores.

Commercial Painting retail store colours

The psychology behind retail store colours

As retail owners, you need to know that potential customers make a subconscious judgement within 90 seconds of entering a store. This has everything to do with the interior colours in the store.

  • 62% to 90% of first impressions of stores are based on colour.
  • 52% of customers won’t return to a store if they don’t like the interior design.
  • 93% of buying decisions are based on visual appearance.
  • Colour advertisements outside the home are read 42% more than internet ads.
  • Colour increases brand recognition by around 80%.
  • Colour boosts memory by adding an extra stimulus for the brain.

Retail store colours can target a specific market through emotion

  • Younger customers are drawn more to bright and bold colours. Older shoppers prefer subtle colours.
  • For impulse buying, use black, royal blue, and red-orange. To target budget shoppers, use navy blue or teal.
  • For targeted female shoppers, use blue, purple, and green; for the males, use blue, green, and black colours.

If you want your store to immediately grab attention, use shades of red. This colour prompts attention, quick decision, and increases heart rate. It has this “look at me” effect and reduces analytical thinking. If you own fast-food dining or a confectionery, red also increases appetite.

Pink evokes calmness, romance, light-heartedness, and happiness. It is also a soothing colour. Naturally, pink is the de facto colour for females. It is used for retail stores that market feminine products and gifts for women.

Orange goes well for stores with fitness products (or for fitness gyms), clothing, and supplements.

Blue works well for stores that deal with financials and for pet stores.

Black evokes strength, authority, and classiness. It’s a good colour for electronics retail stores and men’s clothing.

A&A Painting Ltd.

If you own a retail store or any business in the West Kootenay areas, particularly in Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail, you might need fresh coats of paint for it. You don’t need to go far because you can call the most experienced and dependable professional painting contractor in the area, A&A Painting. We have over 30 years of experience in commercial painting services, and our past and present clients can attest to this. We are bonded, licensed, insured, and all personnel are fully background checked.

Do you own a commercial building, office space, or warehouse? Maybe it’s been so many years since it received its first coats, and now you notice chipping paint and dull walls. You need to consider choosing and hiring a commercial painting contractor to retouch your property and give it a fresh, new look.

What does commercial painting mean?

Commercial painting covers exterior or interior large-scale paint jobs for commercial spaces such as warehouses, office buildings or spaces, restaurants, stores, and the like. While apartments, condos, and HOAs are residential in nature, a commercial painting service will also cover these since they are commercially marketed, e.g. rentals. If the interior or exterior of your business needs updating or a fresh coat of paint, you need to hire a reliable professional commercial painting company.

What do commercial painters do?

Commercial painting companies have highly skilled and professional painters capable of updating any business interior and exterior. They also have the experience of working with general contractors and HOAs in their local areas. For instance, a commercial painting Nelson contractor such as A&A Painting Ltd. operating in the West Kootenay area will be highly familiar with everything commercial in the Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail areas. A commercial painting company such as this can offer all commercial businesses or complexes the following services:

  • Commercial and Industrial painting.

  • Commercial interior and exterior painting.

  • Containment and air filtration.

  • Maintenance program.

  • Color consulting.

  • Spray painting.

  • High-pressure washing.

  • Preparation repairs.

How much do commercial painters charge?

On average, commercial painters charge around $2 – $6 per square foot and around $65 – $100 per hour. Of course, there can be adjustments to this based on various factors such as the size of the commercial property, labor costs, paints and material costs, and others.

For any commercial painting job, the biggest factor will be the size of a commercial property or space. The bigger the building and space, the job will cost more. For instance, with interior commercial painting jobs, the amount of space measured is based on wall space, not floor space. So, for a warehouse that measures 14×14, that would be 196 square feet.

Other factors to consider are how much paint or the volume of paint that will be used, the type of paint chosen, and if there are interior or exterior cracks or damages that need repairing before the painting work.

What important factors should you consider when choosing a commercial painting contractor?

  • Licensing and insurance

The painting company should be fully licensed, insured, and bonded as required and mandated by any Canadian province. Also, inquire if the company has liability insurance as this is for the protection of the employees against injuries and accidents. With painters working on your property, you should not be held responsible if anything untoward happens on-site. Insurance also protects your commercial property from any damage by the painters.

  • Commercial painting experience

This is a major consideration when choosing a painting company because a few will try to pass themselves off as commercial painters when their experience has only been with residential painting. Experience means having worked for so many years with other commercial clients and involves complex planning, ladders, scaffolding, tools, and equipment.

  • Timeframes and budget

Some commercial painting jobs can be urgent because a space or business will not earn money during the paint job duration. An experienced painting company can provide an estimate when the job can start and how long to complete.

Likewise, honest quotes and estimates from honest painting companies give you the option to choose, most likely, based now on the quality of finished work. But remember that the cheapest option isn’t always the best. Make sure all costs are covered with no hidden fees or extra payments for other things.

  • Customer reviews

Commercial painting is always a large investment on the part of the proprietor, so take the time to research and read all online reviews from previous clients of the painting company. Aside from reviews from previous customers, check for comments about customer service, the skill of the painters, punctuality, and the overall finish of the job.

If the commercial painting company is truly established for many years, it should have an online portfolio page on its website. These will include shared images from previous clients.

  • Communication skills

An established and professional company will have a staff with strong communication and listening abilities. This is important since some business owners need to convey ideas or concepts to the painters. Most of these ideas and concepts are time-proven to attract customers, so a good painting company needs to listen and communicate well. Both parties need to be on the same wavelength.

What possible steps do professional commercial painters take for a paint job?

  • Step 1 – After a potential client has contacted and booked a quote, the painting staff or team inspects on-site to provide an accurate estimate. This includes a needs-and-expectations assessment, professional color consultation, and then providing the quote or estimate of the entire job. Since commercial painting jobs are large in scope, even an established painting company may need between 24 and 48 hours before releasing the estimate.

  • Step 2 – If the quote, start date, and timeframe are agreed on, other scope details are verified and finalized so everyone is on the same page.

  • Step 3 – Painting doesn’t start right away on the first day. A walkthrough of the site is done to check out all details. All areas will be prepped and covered by repairing, cleaning, filling, and priming all areas as necessary.

  • Step 4 – As soon as the commercial paint job is completed, all work and surrounding areas will be cleaned up, double-check to make sure no leftover paint, materials, tools, and equipment are left behind, and leave the areas on the same level, or better, during the first arrival. A final walkthrough is done with the client to make sure that said client is happy with the finished work before considering it fully completed.

Other things you can do before choosing a commercial painting company

Finding and hiring a commercial painting company isn’t that difficult if you know what questions to ask or what to search for in a painting company, as mentioned above.

Before searching, make sure you’re clear on what work you need to be done. Make a list of tasks the painting company needs to complete. Do detailed and thorough research to narrow down your choices. After receiving quotes, make your decision on hiring so the painting company can get to work as soon as possible.

Canadian weather is unpredictable, plus given its radical temperature shifts. Exterior paint that covers any house faces the most demanding weather conditions possible. Modern paint chemistry and exterior painters are now adept at handling these situations, and house surfaces that once required painting every two years can now go longer before they require repainting. But under certain conditions, there are still a few common problems that will affect exterior paint, especially if the house is a bit old.

Why Does Paint Fade?

UV: These two harmful letters destroy whatever they heat up. If the UV rays from the sun can turn leaves and grass to brown, imagine what it can do to man-made objects that are painted. UV literally sucks the colour out of the chemical bonds in paint.

Now, factor in direct sunlight, harsh weather temperature changes, rain, wind, and winter cold, and you get the picture why paint can fade or chip off from the exterior of houses. You won’t see the paint fade or chip off over time because the breakdown of paint pigments happen over time, and we’re all busy with our lives to notice this, until one day we take one hard look at our house from the outside.

What Can You Do About Fading Exterior Paint?

You can see if it’s time for an exterior repainting job on your house, so, professional painters such as expert painters from Nelson like A&A Painting Contractors have some suggestions to reverse paint fading. It starts with choosing the right paint. Factors such as lighter colours, paint pigment, and low VOCs or no VOCs will also play into the painter’s and homeowner’s discussions.
