How Often Should a House Exterior be Repainted?
There are a few signs to watch out for when a house exterior requires repainting. Cracking and chipping paint is the most obvious. But even with these signs you still need to get the opinion of a professional painting company. This is because there is no real set timeline for exterior painting since every home is different. The closest average timeline is every five to ten years, again depending on factors such as the house materials, weather, and the previous paint job.
Every surface and material will also have its repainting timeline. For instance:
- Brick – If left unpainted, it only needs occasional cleaning; if painted, it can last 15-20 years.
- Cement fiberboard – Lasts around 10-15 years.
- Stucco – Lasts 5-6 years.
- Aluminum siding – Typically lasts around 5 years.
- Wood siding – Some 3-7 years, or every 4 years if it’s stained.
